On February 29 he would get punted by Orton and be kept off of Raw for a while. He would return on April 11 attacking Randy Orton. Eventually him and David Otunga would beat Kane and the Big Show for the tag team championships on the May 23 edition of Raw. They would lose them to Air Boom on the August 22 edition of Raw. They would feud with Jerry "the king" Lawler for a while and then they went their seperate ways. McGillicutty would be downgraded to Superstars and other minor WWE shows.
He returned May 20 2013 as Paul Heymans newest client. He returned under the name of Curtis Axel.

Later that night he would face and beat Triple H by forfeit. Since his return he has gotten victories over some top superstars. Including two victories over John Cena, a victory over Chris Jericho and two victories over Triple H. This Sunday he will challenge for the intercontinental championship against Wade Barrett and the Miz.

Axel is pretty good in the ring and he's not bad on the mic. Having a manager such as Paul Heyman will do good for him especially considering the people Heyman has managed people who have achieved much success in WWE such as Brock Lesnar, a former WWE champion, and CM Punk, who was WWE champion for 434 days. He is also the son of Mr. Perfect so that will might help Axel become a big thing in WWE, however Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibease haven't achieved much in WWE and their dads are accomplished in WWE. I believe Axel has a bright future in WWE as long as he doesn't suffer any injuries or get into problems with the WWE. I didn't really care about him when he was McGillicutty but he has now caught my interest. Hopefully WWE doesn't lose interest in Axel.
